Creative Textile Workshops

Creativity is a gift that we all have within us. Having the time to nurture and develop our creativity is something that we need to make time for says Janet North the leader of the workshops.

Janet is a member of the Somerset Guild of Craftsmen. She trained at the Bradford & Ilkley College of Art & Textile Design in Bradford Yorkshire and holds a diploma in Handloom Weaving. She has exhibited a wide range of work during Somerset Art weeks over the last ten years and is inspired by nature and the processes of creativity.

Weekend Felt Making Workshop

Come and be inspired in the beautiful surroundings of Steps Farm. Using fleece given by the sheep on the farm, we will be making hand rolled felt; a smooth fine felt which is suitable for clothing, cushions, wall hangings, and bags. You will be shown how to make the felt, how to embellish it very simply, and by the end of the weekend go home with a completed piece.

Woven Tapestry Weekend

Be inspired by the simplicity of tools and the use of your own hands to create a small woven tapestry. No experience necessary. Woven tapestry can be totally absorbing helping to still the mind and nurture our unique creativity.

Taster Workshops

Hand Spinning

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to create your own yarn? This day will be spent looking at the processes of creating a continuous thread using hand spindles. Some spinning wheels will be available for hands on experience.

Using nature's beautiful gifts we will explore the potential of Natural dyes.
